Neurobiology of substance use disorder

The Mitra lab studies circuit and epigenetic adaptations underlying drugs of abuse. We also examine how stress influence drug taking and relapse through long term neuroadaptations in the mesolimbic dopamine pathways. We use pharmacology, chemogenetics, viral mediated gene transfer and cell-type specific tools.

Project 1: How stressor controllability is regulated through circuit and molecular adaptations.

Project 2: How stress alters opioid plasticity through modulation of epigenetic adaptations

Project 3: How novel psychoplastogens modulate opioid-induced neurobehavioral plasticity.
