Principal Investigator
Swarup Mitra, Ph.D. Assistant Professor [email protected], Google Scholar, Twitter Swarup completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Neuroscience at the University of Alaska Fairbanks from Abel Bult-Ito's laboratory. His doctoral research focused on phenotypic and molecular characterization of a novel mouse model of compulsivity that diverges on strain and sex. During his postdoctoral research in David Dietz's laboratory at The State University of New York at Buffalo, he examined circuit and epigenetic mechanisms underlying long-term neuroadaptations to drugs of abuse. When not working in the lab, Swarup likes to hike in nature trails with his family, and play with his labrador retriever, Denali. |

Collaborator
Malabika Maulik, Ph.D. Assistant Professor Dr. Maulik spent seven years working in drug development at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals and the Novartis International Clinical Development Center. She obtained her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Neuroscience from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, followed by postdoctoral training at SUNY Buffalo and Marshall University. Dr. Maulik brings extensive expertise in glial biology and is currently investigating how prenatal opioid exposure affects behavioral outcomes through alterations in glial networks. |

Ann Jeffers
Research Scientist Ann was born and raised in central Kansas. She received her BS in biology from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS and her M.S. in Biotechnology from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. Ann came to the Mitra lab after spending 13 years researching pleural and pulmonary fibrosis at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler. Ann is eager to apply her years of experience in cellular and molecular biology to opioid research. Outside of work, Ann loves spending time with her family, traveling, baking and cooking. |

Anastasia Dodge
Ph.D. Student Anastasia graduated in 2022 with a BS in Biology and Biochemistry from Oral Roberts University. Her research interests include drug induced epigenetic adaptations, the effects of early life adversity in mouse models, and the role of astrocytes in social behaviors. As a PhD candidate, Anastasia is dedicated to cultivating a love of learning. Anastasia enjoys attending scientific meetings, presenting research, and collaborating with peers in the pursuit of knowledge. She is passionate about teaching and mentoring and has enjoyed working with undergraduate students as a lab facilitator. Anastasia also enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, and spending time with family and friends. |
